Game On 2.0

Game On 2.0 is the most extensive exhibition survey of the history and culture of the video games industry. The exhibition was newly curated to tour in 2010 and will feature at the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry in the United States, from 2 Jul – 18 Sep 2011. It is available to tour after this time. Developed in 2010, the exhibition charts key game developments from 1962 to the present day. Game On 2.0 takes a global perspective on gaming’s remarkable past and the myriad possibilities for its future. From the early sixties to the latest industry immersive technologies such as the Virtusphere, Game On 2.0 examines the advances of a medium that has become as much a part of contemporary culture and consciousness as music or cinema.

Featuring over 130 playable games, visitors can look back on early forms of gaming with the pinball games Space Riders and The Machines – Bride of Pinbot, play memorable games such as Pong, Space Invaders and Sonic the Hedgehog, operate the ten most influential consoles in gaming history and experience the latest cutting edge technologies of virtual reality, 3D and thought interface technology. The exhibition also showcases the Virtusphere, an interactive virtual reality console that creates a truly immersive experience. Visitors can experience and play them all.

Game On 2.0 charts the conceptual and design process for some of the most important releases of recent times: Pokémon, The Sims, Jak and Daxter, Tomb Raider and Uncharted 2. The exhibition compares and celebrates the cultural influence of games – from North America, Europe, Japan, and the rest of the world. Other highlights include an exploration of online gaming, new game technologies and films that have influenced, or been influenced by, computer games.

Highly interactive, all action, state-of the-art, groundbreaking and fun – Game On 2.0 is the ultimate gaming exhibition, educational and suitable for audiences of all ages.
